Point Lookout!

Ok, before I say anything, I already know what you’re thinking. “Nalah where have you been? Why haven’t you posted any blogs?” Well, the truth is, every Friday, I’d tell myself to blog, and then I’m either super busy, or…I forget. I know, I know, but I was born forgetful!

Anyway, my school, The Key School in Annapolis, Maryland, goes on a lot of outdoor education trips. In fact, earlier this school year, we hiked up the Appellation Trail with giant backpacks, slept together under a tarp, and ate cold oatmeal. But the worst part was, there were no bathrooms!! Yeah it was bad, but the point is, tomorrow through Thursday, we’ll be at Point Lookout! I still haven’t figured out wear it is, but its tree hours away from my school. This time will be soooooo different from the AT trip. There will be bathrooms (thank goodness), working water, actual food, and we get to go marsh mucking, which is when you walk around in a swamp. We also wont be carrying all our supplies and clothes on our back. All we have to carry is our day pack. I thinks. We were told to put clothes, sleeping bags, and personal hygiene products (along with some other items on the packing list) in a big plastic bin. I think they will drive our stuff to the camp site though.

Anyway, I’m super excited so I’ll see you guys next weekend! Hopefully… 🙂

Shenandoah Caverns

On Thursday my mom drove me two hours to a cave in Virginia called Shenandoah Caverns. Its a huge underground cave with ginormous rocks and beautiful underground lakes! When we got there we had a little of time so we looked around the gift shop. It was amazing! There were geodes and stones cut into heats and all kind of stuff. There was even old currency! You couldn’t use it now, but its still really cool to see. My mom got some, and I’m gonna bring some in to show my humanities(vocabulary, social studies, history, and reading combined) teacher because she would love stuff like that!

When the tour finally began, we went down an elevator 60 feet, and in the cave there were amazing stalagmites and stalagmites. There were no gems in the cave, but it was still beautiful. Certain sections had rainbow lights on them, and when the light reflected off of them, they were beautiful! The most beautiful thing though was the Rainbow Lake. It was an underground lake that had stalagmites hanging from the top and had rainbow lights on it. The water reflected the top of the cave so it looked deep, but it was only about three centimeters deep.

The worst part about the trip was the fact that I got mud all over my boots. The mud has dried and I still haven’t washed them all. I have to do that soon or else I’ll never where them again! Just kidding I could never abandon my boots. 😛 Anyway I hope you guys had a good weekend. And if you didn’t know, I was on winter break this past week, so that’s why I had the time to go out and things like that. See you next week! Pictures in next blog. 🙂

Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Yes I know its four days late but lets just say I forgot to publish this blog post. Either way, I hope everyone had a nice time, and spent time with your family and friends. Speaking of family, I spent the whole day at home with mine. My dad even agreed to make me and my mom breakfast lunch and dinner! It was so sweet of him. I know its a short blog but there isn’t much to say, so talk to you next week, or in a couple of days rather! Bye! 🙂

Sleepover!!! :D

Hi guys! Sorry its been such a long time. I’m still trying to work out my schedule with homework and stuff. Another reason my weekend was so busy because I went to a… ALL WEEKEND SLEEPOVER!!!

I spent the whole weekend with my friend Gabby. Gabby is super cool, and even has her own YouTube channel. It’s called Gabby S Baker, but only the first few videos that show up are actually hers. We actually made a video about our sleepover, though it was more about us trying candy.

Not just any candy though. MAGICAL CANDY! Just kidding. We just tried some foreign, most of which was from Japan. We went to our favorite candy shop, Lolli and Pops , bought some foreign candy, and went home to try them out. My favorite candy was the Hi Chew, a Japanese chewy fruity candy. Gabby didn’t like it that much, but she did like the one I hated.  It was called Daim. Its a hard caramel bar with chocolate on the inside. It was so hard and stuck to my teeth. The caramel wasn’t even the sticky part! But the best thing from the both of us, was this Japanese soda. I don’t remember the name of it, but it was strawberry flavored and delicious.

We tried not to eat it all in one night, but I’m pretty sure there were only a few pieces left in the morning. Next time, I’ll make sure to take pictures so you guys can see. Make sure to check out Gabby’s channel! 🙂

Winter Wonderland!

Hi everybody sorry it’s been such a long time! I got a little busy last weekend. Whats really important, is the snow we’re having here in Maryland!!! I woke up this morning, and the snow was up to the tires! Our driveways in my neighborhood go uphill, so its even higher on the actual road! I sorta wanna play in it, but I know I will fall, start laughing, and then realize how cold I am!

Speaking of playing, yesterday when the snow was only half of what it is now, I played with my next door neighbors! Two boys and one girl, which is good when we want to play girls vs boys! They’re home schooled, which I think is really cool. We had a lot of fun yesterday, though, and we played tag, had sled races, and had several snowball fights, even though the snow didn’t stick. Anyway, I wish we could do the same today, but its getting a little too high.

Oh! I just remembered! Sometime last week, my mom got me this really cool amethyst key chain. Its raw amethyst, which means it hasn’t been polished or cut into a specific shape. I don’t have any keys, but its still really cool to look at. If you didn’t know, amethyst is a type of quartz. If you go to my page about gems, you can read more about it! Anyway, that’s it for today! See you guys next week! 🙂

Family Time!

Yesterday me and my family took a three-hour trip to Norfolk, Virginia to see Daddy Joe’s parents. Daddy Joe is my amazing step-dad. We hadn’t seen them in a few months. I had a lot of fun. My grandpa had a stroke a couple years ago, and every time we went to visit, he was laying down. But this time he was walking and actually saying sentences! I was happy to see him feeling better.

We played Scrabble for hours. First, I just played against Daddy Joe (I almost won! Just saying!) And then my aunt and uncle came over, and we played with them. On Daddy Joe’s side, everyone lives very close, and I think that’s pretty cool. Anyway, I put down the word “doge,” and they all said that wasn’t a word (even though I knew it was.) We looked it up and I was right! Everyone was dumbfounded (and very impressed if I do say so myself). Especially because I, the only kid there, knew it and they didn’t. Overall, we had a lot of fun, not to mention I got to eat some of my grandma’s sweet potato pie. Yum!

For those of you gem lovers out there, the mineral for tomorrow is HEMATITE. I’ll have a piece to share in homeroom so be on time, all of you who go to my school! 🙂

Guess What I Got!!

DSC_0621Sure it’s January, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get late Christmas presents! My amazing mom got me this really cool rocks and minerals kit and book. There are fifty types of rocks! Super cool! Can’t wait to read the book!

This kit will totally prepare me to study geology in high school and college, plus get me ready to be a geoscientist! Eek! So excited!

The kit even come with a list of the rocks’ names and hardness degrees. You can get this kit at Amazon. The book, Rocks and Minerals, is written by Chris Pellant. If you guys are interested, I definitely suggest getting this book.
